MakellBird.info: April 2011

I've always been perplexed as to why a person would want to see the same movie more than once while it was in theaters. Aside from the fact that it's simply a waste of money, some fans feel compelled to reiterate their geekdom by doing this. Of course the ultra-geek will even go as far as waiting in a long line or camping outside of a theater in support of their obsession. For me however, there have only been 3 movies I've ever seen more than once in a theater. (Click the titles for more info about these movies on imdb.com)

1. Cool World (1992)

I was 10-11 years old and my Uncle, who was living with us at the time, was a projectionist for the local theater in Jonesboro, GA. This means from time-to-time I would get free screenings. As a kid I was highly intrigued by the idea of an adult themed cartoon. Cool World was exactly that, a Cool(er) World than what I was living in at the time. I became entranced by this movie and saw it at least 3 times in that theater, all for free of course. The fact that it also took place in Las Vegas, a city I adored and now live in, didn't hurt.

2. The Jacket (2005)
I was 25, single, bored, and "The Jacket" was the only movie worth seeing at the time. I was pleasantly surprised because the trailer had it posed as a thriller when it was more of a sci-fi love story. I loved it and to this day it is one of my Top 10 fave movies. I saw it at the Sunset Station theater twice.

3. Inception (2010)
This was an awesome movie. I originally saw it alone. Then my wifey wanted to see it with me and I felt it was good enough for another go-round.

How to read RSS feeds with Google Chrome

I love google. I really do. But this has to be the most boneheaded thing they've ever done. If you're using the Google Chrome browser, and try to subscribe to an RSS feed (typically found on blogs), it juts appears as one really long string of text. Well, although I feel one shouldn't have to do this, here's an extension for Google Chrome that will support the RSS feed. This all doesn't make sense because if you're a Google user using IE or Firefox or Safari it works fine. But on Google's own browser it doesn't work??? And Google even has Google Reader!?!

I've noticed that almost every time I see video of concert footage I almost never see the crowd repeating the lyrics or filling in for the MC. Yes, people might come to your show, but they don't know any of the lyrics to any of your songs by heart. Only legendary artists with legendary songs, or catchy songs, or songs that have had actual regular rotation or radio play are the ones that get repeated by the crowd. There seems to be a move towards the death of crowd participation. Another thing I noticed is that when the MC asks the crowd to put their hands in the air or to put their lighters up, they are usually met with a blank stare or criticism. WTF is happening here???

So, I don't know if this is a smart business tactic or a sign of the times that Hip-Hop music period just isn't worth a damn when it comes to the purchasing public. If you've been on itunes recently, you may have noticed that there are a bunch of albums called split or two-for-one albums. Basically, Real Talk Ent is releasing 2 separate and unrelated albums together and for the super low price of about $2-$3 total! What are your thoughts?

Update: It turns out the catch here is that when you purchase these 2-for-1 shits, you're not getting all the songs that came on the original releases! Shame on You Real Talk Ent.!

I haven't had the oppurtunity to meet either of these young cats myself, which is usually weird seeing as how I literally know almost every rapper in Vegas. All I know is this, at some point, Dizzy D Flashy and R3D were cool with each other and now they are not. I can only ascertain that, based on what's already been said, they simply have different views in terms of where each other's careers are headed. This comes amidst a recent diss track released by Dizzy D Flashy via YouTube (see below)

I gotta lotta respect for T.I., but it's strange to talk to kids about staying in school when you and ALL your homeboys came up off of trappin'. Even if those kids stay in school they prolly won't make as much money as him. Strange indeed.
