In the beginning of 2008 I had just started cranking up my
Maktown Radio mixtape series. I was looking throughout sites like
datpiff,
myspace, and
soundclick (which were poppin' at the time) for underground artists with heat as that was the focus of the series. I came across a mixtape called
Off The Books by an artist named
Donny Goines and hosted by
DJ BedTyme 357. I chose the songs
"Don't Be Blinded" and
"Hip-Hop Lazarus" to be included on what would become the
Maktown Radio 0: SoundClick vs MySpace mixtape.
Fast forward to present day and Donny Goines is gearing up for his own reality show on
MTVU, which focuses on his music career. Here is the trailer.
Who said being on Maktown Radio wasn't a blessing? Donny is one of many artists who have appeared on
Maktown Radio and
Maktown TV and went on to do so much more.
